What you'll do
- Monitor day-to-day execution across departments, identifying gaps between what operations builds and what programming or partnerships actually deliver.
- Serve as the connective tissue between operations, governance, and programming, so accountability doesn't depend on any one person catching everything.
- Support board alignment by tracking chapter metrics and flagging issues before they reach a board vote.
- Stand in for the President at events, meetings, and national calls when needed.
- Assist in strategy execution, translating decisions made at the executive level into action across the board.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between ALPFA Puerto Rico and ALPFA Nationals.
- Monitor, interpret, and communicate national updates, initiatives, deadlines, and requirements to the local board.
- Coordinate and submit required chapter reports, updates, and impact summaries to ALPFA Nationals.
- Support the preparation of event recaps, annual summaries, and chapter performance documentation.
- Facilitate cross-chapter collaboration by sharing best practices, resources, and learning opportunities when appropriate.
- Partner with the ED of Operations and ED of Partnerships to close the loop between what systems report and what actually happened on the ground.
What you bring
- Prior board or committee involvement with ALPFA Puerto Rico or another chapter or similarly structured organization.
- Strong communication and relationship management skills, with comfort interfacing with national leadership and external stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational judgment, with the ability to spot what's falling behind before it becomes a problem.
- Strong written communication skills, including reporting and documentation.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating closely with board leadership.
- Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
How our board works
ALPFA Puerto Rico operates with a dedicated "working board" of volunteers, responsible for strategic planning, implementation, and execution of key programming. The Board of Directors is led by the Chapter President, with support from an Executive Committee and a Corporate Advisory Board. There are no salaried or paid positions within the organization.
Directors can recruit committee members (non-board members) to help reach their goals. Executive Board Members serve for two years, while Directors have a one-year term. All board members become Gold members as part of onboarding.
Board members typically have 5+ years of professional experience, with exceptions for candidates who bring exceptional skills in specific areas. Directors average 3 to 5 hours a week, with more during business planning season. Executive board members average 5 to 10 hours a week. All Board Members are expected to show up at ALPFA Puerto Rico events whenever possible. Board meetings are held once a month.
