ALPFA Puerto Rico has launched “El Llamado,” an initiative aimed at turning the Puerto Rican diaspora’s ties to the island into opportunities for investment, entrepreneurship, mentoring and economic development.
The effort seeks to mobilize the talent, leadership, knowledge and capital of the more than 6 million Puerto Ricans living in the United States, a population that now exceeds the number of residents on the island.
As part of the initiative, ALPFA Puerto Rico will host the Diaspora Summit 2026 on June 12. The hybrid event will bring together business leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, professionals and organizations focused on Puerto Rico’s economic and social development.
The organization said the summit will serve as a platform to identify opportunities for collaboration and highlight initiatives related to investment, business creation, talent development, professional mentoring and the strengthening of strategic sectors of the economy.
ALPFA Puerto Rico also plans to announce a series of in-person meetings in key U.S. cities to expand engagement with members of the diaspora and encourage their participation in economic development efforts tied to the island.
“Puerto Rico has an extraordinary competitive advantage: a diverse, successful diaspora committed to its roots,” said Laura Camila Rivera, president of ALPFA Puerto Rico. “The challenge now is to create the necessary bridges to turn that interest into action and that connection into economic development for the island.”
The initiative is part of ALPFA Puerto Rico’s “El Momento: El Llamado” campaign, which seeks to promote greater collaboration between Puerto Rico and its global community to generate economic growth, innovation and leadership opportunities.
